Announcing Trexel - 2D Graphics App for Game Development
September 22, 2026
We’re extremely happy to announce our upcoming graphics editor - Trexel!

Before we dive deeper, I must clarify that PixiEditor isn’t going anywhere, we will continue working on it and we believe Trexel will let us make PixiEditor even better.
Why a new app?
Over the years, we’ve received many requests for features related to game development in PixiEditor. We love those ideas, but it would take hundreds, if not thousands of hours to implement them. We wouldn’t have enough time and resources to build it for free.
Also, the nature of PixiEditor is to be a flexible 2D graphics editor. The feature set is broad, and it is use-case agnostic.
We see Trexel as a specialized app for game development. It will contain tools for level editing, texturing, normal maps, materials, skyboxes, game GUIs, and tight game engine integrations.
All the important information is available on Trexel’s website.
What about PixiEditor?
Trexel is our way to more reliably fund the development of both PixiEditor and Trexel. Funding plays a big part here. PixiEditor is voluntary work, and no member of the team is paid. All revenue from the paid extensions we have goes back into the project - it’s not enough to make a living.
I’ve been working on PixiEditor full-time since 2024, and honestly, I’m not sure how much longer I could continue to give PixiEditor so much of my attention without any income.
I believe Trexel’s revenue will help us develop PixiEditor faster and, hopefully, bring more full-time developers. Trexel’s succcess doesn’t determine whether PixiEditor will be further developed. It’s an additional project which in the best case will benefit PixiEditor.
So, head out to Trexel.app and sign up for the newsletter to stay up to date with the latest news.
Cheers!
